In this busy world of ours, being organized is often essential to an easier life. Household responsibilities become easier to manage, goals become clearer and the orderly space that you create may even allow you to sleep better at night.
January is the perfect month to begin anew. Here are a few tips to help you get started.
Get Your Kids on Board
By teaching your children that items have a home or need to be re-set daily, will help your entire household run better. Everything needs its own space or home. At least once a day, remind them that that they need to restore their order.
Paperwork is always more efficient when stored vertically rather than horizontally. Piles are difficult to sort through and typically only provide a reminder of the page that sits on top. Having a file or desk drawer where you can store your paper records is ideal for efficiency.
Go Paperless When Possible
Set yourself up for automatic payments for monthly bills and eliminate the need for paper mail. All of the information you need is available online and once you get acclimated to this system, you’ll ask yourself why you didn’t do it sooner.
Tackle Your Closets
First, remove all of the extra hangers in your closet. Recycle, give away or remove all of hangers that don’t belong. Pick up your clothes from the closet floor. Hang your clothing up, place it in the laundry basket, take it to the dry cleaner, arrange for consignment or give it away. A clean closet is so liberating!
Practice the Art of Purging
We all have too much stuff. If we don’t regularly and open-heartedly let go of things, the abundance of stuff starts to slowly take over and we find ourselves getting overwhelmed by our possessions. Once you begin to let things go, you become more careful about bringing more things into your life.
